Abilene Community Theatre is pleased to announce open auditions for their next production, Neil Simon’s BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, directed by Mike Stephens. Open auditions will be held on the ACT Main Stage on both Monday, December 5th and Tuesday, December 6th, from 7pm to 9pm each night.
Originally on Broadway in 1963, Simon’s romantic comedy is about young newlyweds Corie and Paul Bratter, and their adjusting to married life over the course of four days in their apartment of a New York brownstone. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. During the play, the couple learns to live together while facing the usual daily ups-and-downs.
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK will be directed by Mike Stephens, and the cast consists of 6 characters:
- CORIE BRATTER - a free spirit, newlywed to Paul – female, 20s to early 30s
- PAUL BRATTER - a lawyer, newlywed to Corie – male, 20s to 30s
- MRS. BANKS - Corie's mother – female, late 30s and older
- VICTOR VELASCO - the neighbor in the attic – male, 40s and later
- TELEPHONE REPAIR MAN – male, any age
- DELIVERY MAN – male, any age
Auditions are for all parts, and no previous acting experience is necessary. Those auditioning should bring a prepared monologue (1 to 2 minutes max in length, rehearsed, does not need to be memorized) to present, and be prepared for cold readings from the stage. Rehearsal schedule will be determined after auditions, and first read thru of the script by the cast will be held on Monday, December 12th.
BAREFOOT IN THE PARK will be performed at Abilene Community Theatre (809 South Barrow) on February 9th thru February 18th, 2017, and will be produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
