Abilene Community Theatre is pleased to announce open auditions for their opening production of their 2018-2019 season, DIAL “M” FOR MURDER by Frederick Knott, and directed by Mike Stephens. Open auditions will be held on the ACT Main Stage on Sunday, June 3rd, from 2pm to 4pm, and Tuesday, June 5th, from 7pm to 9pm.
In DIAL “M”, Tony Wendice married his wife, Margot, for her money and now plans to murder her for the same reason. He arranges the perfect murder and blackmails a scoundrel into strangling her. Unfortunately, the murderer gets murdered and the victim survives. But Tony uses this twist to frame Margot, who is then convicted for the murder of the man who tried to murder her. Will the truth be discovered before she is executed?
The cast consists of 6+ characters:
MARGOT WENDICE (f): 20+, attractive
TONY WENDICE (m): 30+, formerly athletic build
MAX HALLIDAY (m): 20s / 30s, writer
LESGATE (m): 30s/40s
HUBBARD (m): 40+, police inspector
THOMPSON (m): 20s-50s, police office
MALE VOICES (m): reporter, lawyer, announcer, “Pendleton”, “O’Brien”, “Williams”
Auditions are for all parts, and no previous acting experience is necessary. Those auditioning should bring a prepared one-minute contemporary dramatic monologue with an English accent (rehearsed, does not need to be memorized) to present, and be prepared for cold readings from the stage. The date of first read thru and the rehearsal schedule will be determined after auditions. DIAL “M” FOR MURDER will be performed at Abilene Community Theatre (809 Barrow) on August 31st thru September 9th, 2018, and will be produced by special arrangement with Samuel French.
